An enhanced version of leading data protection system Calyx has been launched on the UK market. The added and improved features make the system straightforward to use on almost any desktop, laptop or PDA, with a wide variety of peripherals and devices.
Calyx, from data security specialists Open Seas, secures any computer - desktop or laptop - and keeps the contents of its hard disk safe from all but authorised keyholders. The interlocking suite of programs can guard against data theft, installation of unauthorised software, illegal Web browsing and hacking.
Using small, individually programmed devices such as USB tokens and smart cards as keys, Calyx makes data on a hard disk completely inaccessible to anyone without permission to view it. A combination of access control, firewalls and file encryption ensures that confidential data is protected from external, online and internal attack.
Version 5.4 introduces new features to make using web-based services more secure. Many organisations now use browsers and the web as a gateway to corporate databases or major services such as online banking, so the need for security in this area is increasing. The new version of Calyx allows user passwords and other authentication information to be stored on the token, meaning that users do not need to know their own passwords - effectively closing up the weakest link in the security chain.
The latest release also lets users program their own details into the key devices, making the system easier to set up both for employees and administrators.
