Open Seas launches new version of data security package

SpyKiller, one of the leading packages for keeping data locked away from prying eyes, can now be used with almost any security device on the market.

The latest version of SpyKiller, from data security specialists Open Seas, supports the PKCS #11 communication standard - allowing the application to work with any smart card or USB token using a Public Key Interface (PKI) encryption algorithm.

SpyKiller uses small, individually programmed external devices such as USB tokens and smart cards to make data on a hard disk thoroughly inaccessible to anyone without permission to view it. Whether the protected machine is a laptop, a notebook or a desktop PC connected to a network, the computer will not even boot up without the device in place.

Because the user's password is stored on the token, there is no danger of accidentally disclosing it. On the fly data encryption adds an extra level of security to the gatekeeping system.

Other features of the new release, Version 5.3, include a personal firewall, compatibility with the Novell and Linux operating systems, and a new, more convenient logon process.
